About Norma G. McDowell
She loves children and music and is excited to work with both! Her background has been with children her entire life, working in her family’s owned day care growing up, then later owning and managing it herself. She has a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Erskine College in Due West, SC. She has taught in public schools and Christian schools.
She played flute in band and was drum major in marching band. She was in many talent performances and won national contests with singing and playing instruments through her teenage years. In college she traveled with vocal groups who ministered in churches. She has been a pastor’s wife and children’s church leader.
She home schooled her own children for a time, daughter and twin boys who are now in college. She encouraged her kids to learn music from an early age and now they play many instruments. She is a wife of a Navy Chaplain and has substituted all ages in military base schools, especially music classes on the elementary level. Other involvement with music is her love for playing flute and singing at church. She has served in base chapels as choir director and worship leader on keyboard with her own children making up “the band” many times.
She is new to Kindermusik but looks forward to this opportunity to work, play, sing and smile with children and music. She believes all children are musical and can learn through music. Mrs. Norma currently teaches ABC Music & Me classes and flute/recorder lessons upon request. She is currently furthering her professional development by becoming a licensed Educator for Kindermusik International.
